Thanks for stopping by. I’m Paul Walmsley, and along with Christine Walter, I co-founded the Australia and New Zealand Coaching Alliance (ANZCAL).

Originally from a small town in the North West of England, I relocated to New Zealand in 2005 with my wife, Janet. Our daughter Alice has now grown into her own life and continues to inspire us every day.

My path into coaching and education was anything but linear. I started as a Trainee Scientist at the Science and Engineering Research Council in the UK, which ignited my passion for lifelong learning. After studying Physics, I moved into IT, then completed a First-Class Honours in Applied Computing. Along the way, I began mentoring new trainees—discovering that empowering others was my true calling.

Since 2009, I’ve served as a Senior Fellow Adjunct at the University of Canterbury, teaching postgraduate courses in coaching and leadership. I’ve also pursued technical writing, enjoyed an IBM residency in Austin, Texas, and honed my photography skills capturing family and business moments. Outside the office, I volunteered as an Ambulance Officer with Hato Hone St John, where I lead First Responders in our region.

In later 2020,  I made a meaningful shift into primary healthcare. I now lead a dedicated team of clinicians and non-clinical staff, collaboratively caring for a large community. Guiding this incredible group - general practitioners, paramedics, nurses, administrators, and support personnel - has deepened my appreciation for teamwork, compassion, and holistic healthcare delivery.

Through all these experiences, I’ve been guided by the Law of Cause and Effect — what you give to the world returns to you. That belief is what inspired me to establish ANZCAL with Christine and cultivate an authentic, supportive coaching community that fuels real-world impact one conversation at a time.

After many rewarding years, it felt like the right time to hand over the reins to someone who shares that same passion and vision. I’m delighted that Samantha Hannah is now leading ANZCAL into its next chapter. Sam brings wisdom, integrity, and a heartfelt commitment to the coaching profession. I have every confidence she’ll continue to nurture this community with care and purpose.
